Crafteroo Classifieds / PennyDog's fabric destash sale
« on: 29 Apr 2013 11:02 »
I've come to realise that I need to let go of a lot of my fabrics that I'm never going to use both vintage and new, to give me space for newer fabrics I've bought that I probably will use. What better time than pay day to start destashing? I have varying lengths from FQs to yardage but also scrap bags and possibly some other bits too. Hopefully you will pick up a bargain (and help me buy my new quarter inch foot since I put my needle through mine and broke it)!

First come first served, items will be deleted as they are sold and this may be updated in the future.

POSTAGE RATES
Prices quoted are for UK delivery but if you want me to look into International postage costs, drop me a message, I'm happy to post internationally.

Quilt and Stitch Village is an exhibition of quilts and embroideries starting today through to Sunday. My Stephen Fry quilt is there and I'll be going on Sunday with some friends if anyone wants to meet up :)

Non Crafts Related / I am emigrating
« on: 11 Apr 2013 14:22 »
I'm very excited and a little bit trepidacious. I've just paid a retainer for an emigration specialist and we're waiting for the official jobs lists to come out of Canada in the next month or two to see if I qualify to go over within the next 18 months to 2 years. I will have to go where the demand takes me and we would like to move to Nova Scotia (I imagine having a small boat in Halifax harbour and sailing out into the ocean....) but it looks like we'll be going to a cosmopolitan area of Ontario for the time being. It will mean either taking the dog or leaving him with the in laws, selling the house and "reinvesting" the deposit money we were gifted into something that won't be too popular but that's it now, we're on the way! I'll be living off super noodles to pay all of the taxes and try and get my debts settled over the coming months...

I finished another quilt!

This is Rain Deer Limbo- I pieced it in the rainy limbo period between Christmas and New Year but have only just finished the quilting and binding.

Each grey row has a different quilting pattern on it which was good for keeping me interested.

I'm down to the last 4 to win a fabric bundle on the Intrepid Thread blog. We had to choose an image and make a colour palette from it for our bundle and I am currently second. My photo is #4, the gummy bears. Voting closes tomorrow morning but I would really appreciate your vote (in the sidebar on the right of the page, not in the comments).

Thanks so much!

If anyone sees a copy of Love Patchwork and Quilting in their local big newsagents or Smiths (it's by the same people as Mollie Makes) could you pick a copy up for me? I'll pay more than the cover price, I can't get one ANYWHERE, even eBay!

Thanks guys.

I've read this article today about a park local to me and how they're hanging pompoms from the trees and such like in a bid to make it feel safer. I'm not convinced, what do you think?

I think I might attempt to make one of these this month, anyone else want to give the tutorial a go and see what we come up with?

So that title got your attention!

I'm making a new quilt for a show and in the same way as I did with my dog quilt, I wanted somewhere to document it which means I don't have to blog the progress every day and bore people stiff, but there's still a place people can come and check in if they're interested in watching the project grow.

This time I'm making a pixel quilt and I wanted to experient with a portrait as I've always found faces challenging in all art forms. So I wanted it to be a recogniseable face (so you can tell instantly if I've achieved what I am going for!) but someone iconic but not cliche like Marilyn Monroe or Elvis would be, but still someone very likeable and more modern.

So that's where I came up with Stephen Fry, because everyone likes Stephen Fry don't they?

Here then is Fryed Pixels from the Christmas break up to how it was on Saturday....

The aim is to finish the top by the end of January but it is taking a long time as the blocks are 5" x 5" finished- a total of 25 pieces per block. The pattern was devised by myself playing with an online cross stitch pattern maker and limiting "thread" colour, then making some quite brave colour choices (most of the greys are actually purple) and ironing 1.5" squares onto lightweight interfacing and stitching the channels to make each pixel 1" square. I have a long way to go but I can confirm that I am now onto piecing the eyes!

This is the graph I'm working from but I've now substituted all background colour for yellow dots as I was worried it would be too much of a magic eye effect otherwise!

I've got a bit more progress done, I tend to work on it early in the morning before work and I have one eye complete now so will put another picture up later today or tomorrow.
