I've only been to FoQ once before and it was a work thing so I managed to buy about £30 of fabric and not look at much else... I wanted to go last year but at the time couldn't justify the entry fee

I went last year, but only because I won a ticket via Sewing Directory. I really enjoyed it tho, and think I will definitely go this year (especially if I have a quilt on show - can you imagine such a thing!!).

I had a bit of a drawing day yesterday one way or another. Here's the template for my pictorial quilt. Greyhounds obv. 


Just got to blow this mother up now to actual size, print it, colour code it and print the real photo BIG as well. Then it's on to making the templates...

I think I scanned the tracing paper in the wrong way too- Penny should actually be on the left.

Wow!  That will look amazing.

Are you printing the photo onto fabric to use as a panel or are you building up the whole thing like a painting by number type of approach?  (Sorry if that sounds a bit naff - but if you can draw that well I can see multiple ways of doing it.)

Yep Julia, I'm doing a sort of paint by numbers with turned under edges using this book as my guide... then I'm going to mount this BIG applique onto a simple pieced background to replicate the background on the photo and cut away the excess underneath.

I'm going to make this my place to natter about my progress (Ali, you're welcome to too if you wish ) rather than my blog as I will do the big reveal over there and maybe do a summary post once I get it done.

So cos it's peeing it down I can't be bothered to go Fencing tonight (naughty me- I've already paid up front). Yesterday I printed it out lifesize- well larger than actual dog size!- on 20 sheets of A3 stuck them to my only available wall with the real photo above for colour matching purposes  and then stuck freezer paper over the top and made a template of my quilt map...


And just now I have decided to work on Fletcher's nose!
Well sort of- I'm going to have a KFC and a bath first. Priorities and all that.

I've had a nice evening with glue and scissors- it's looking good and it's a lot of fun- I'll show you a pic in the morning when I've done a bit more of Fletcher's face...

Well I did a Fletcher-snoz last night (and a bit this morning becuase I am LOVING the gluing)
I've taken the paper off the bits that aren't joining onto anything else because I'm impatient and I want to see what it looks like, but can only peek under the bits that will have more pieces joined onto them.


I've blogged today about a brown fabric amnesty I'm holding because I need more to make Penny out of if anyone has spare yucky brown cottons that they want something pretty back in exchange for...!

I meant to say, if anyone else is going to the show I'm looking at taking a day off work and going either Thursday 16th or Friday 17th August if anyone fancies arranging a meet up over lunch?

A certain hound has been interfering this morning because OH was in bed sleeping off a night shift and he was bored...

Awesome, just waiting on my friend to decide if she will be coming before I book tickets- she'll be off work still I think as she's due an operation soon and is getting into quilts like me
