Pinterest? Anyone understand this?
« on: 3 Apr 2012 17:37 »
I've got a Pinterest account - whoopee!!

But  What exactly am I supposed to do with it?  How is it supposed to work as a social network site.

I know that there are issues around photo's (who owns then) etc.. if someone 'pins' something from your site/blog/facebook etc then somehow it becomes Pinterests - even if you didn't give permission for that to happen. (That's my understanding of it anyway.)

That isn't such an issue for me but I guess for some folk that might be a big problem.  My typepad blog has just provided a piece of code so that you can prevent folk pinning you photo's without asking, so there may be some fixes for other blogs too.

I can see that Pinterest does generate traffic to my blog and shop, which is kind of good for the ego but I'm really not all that clued up as to how to get the 'best ' out of it or even what the 'best might be.

Any ideas or pointers, anyone?

Pinterest have changed their terms and conditions recently after the furore.

I use mine to remind me of great stuff, but mostly I use it for tutorials.

You, in particular, could use it to pin items people have made using stuff bought from you.

That's a good idea - I hadn't thought of using it that way.

I get sent some amazing pictures sometimes and as lot of them are from people who have craft businesses it might actually send something good back.

Goodness yes - great idea to pin pics of stuff made with fabrics from your place.  I find it really useful for things like birthday wishlists, clothes ideas, books I want to read... I use it like bookmarks really.
