I bought it- it was a bit more lifestyle for my tastes- there were only 6 projects in the magazine so I decided I preferred to subscibe to Simply Homemade instead, but it's personal taste really. If you love reading personal crafter blogs and stuff like that you'd probably love it!

I got the first issue and liked it. Yesterday I decided to purchase the trial offer of three mags for £5. However ive had my direct debit details and they've signed me up for a years subscription too. I am mightily peeved tbh and I have had no reply to my email... I may tweet tomo since thats the only way they seem to communicate lol  8)

I did sort of like it - lovely pictures and some interesting articles. But a lot of the projects were a bit 'oh I've seen these these all over the web' kind of thing... but then maybe I spend to much time on the web.  ;)  I can't quite understand the hysteria that seems to have broken out about it in some places (Twitter especially) ... personally I love Selvedge because it makes me think... and is a bit more edgy (but then that's a very different magazine I know, so maybe an unfair comparison). But tbh, although I'm not averse to them, there's only so much shabby chic and bunting I can take..

I was also a bit disappointed that it wasn't a bit more full on about promoting handmade - e.g. a couple of the articles recommended stuff from Anthropologie...  and as I'd recently seen a particularly awful e.g. of anthropologie ripping off an independent designer, I wasn't in the mood for that!

And FB- they're always on there.

Ali I totally agree with everything you said- plus I don't really get the point of an apple cosy anyway :S

Yeah, I must admit I sort of bought it for the freebie (not that I *have* a smartphone!) and thought there'd be more crochet inside (whilst thinking WTF are apple cosies for?!)...maybe I just spend way too much time on Pinterest but I didn't see a lot of new stuff. Bunting is so over, dudes.

It seems to be trying quite hard to be transatlantic, which is a good thing, though I'd like to see more European and global crafting, both traditional and modern - now *there's* a gap in the market.

There really is. And there's a need for a truly European online venue as well. I like Dawanda, but I get the feeling that the UK bit is the poor cousin of the German and French sites. Plus due to their servers being located in Germany, they won't be able to offer Google Analytics, due to privacy laws in Germany.  :-\

One day I was looking for something crocheted and I've chosen just images and I have to say that 50% of the things was something listed on Dawanda, even I have same thing on Etsy but it didn't show up :/

and by the way, the apple cozy is very popular on Etsy and many sellers sell them there (in US)

I made a few my own ones and took to my last fair, I didn't sell any but there was an interest and people's comments were rather positive (I had one comment with not very nice tone of voice: why would need something like that?)

that reminds me one thing, I promised to make one for Meridian

so off to make it now :)

Well, I'm not being mean about it, I just don't get it... ??? I can't see it'd prevent the apple getting bruised in a bag or have any particularly practical application. Or am I missing something blindingly obvious?

I don't think you mean :)

I just think the apple cozy is something that we don't really need in our lives but as it is so cute we want to have it or give it as a gift :)

think outside the box, the apple cosies have other uses  ;)

 ;D

plus they looked great on the front cover.  my daughter had the same doubts, took one look and said 'why on earth would you make one of those?'.
