Apparently, I can crochet!
« on: 21 Apr 2010 21:42 »
I followed the pattern from http://bittersweetblog.wordpress.com/2007/08/14/bake-me-a-cake/ from Ravelry. I attempted crochet a couple of times before, but gave up - just couldn't get into it - except for making a HUGE granny square blanket for DS, but I kept going around the outside, I got to about 2 ft across and got bored, haha!

I've been teaching myself again and even mananged a magic ring after watching a youtube tutorial over and over again - eventually coming up with this:

I'm really pleased with it! Nice fast way to use up some scraps of yarn too :)

Hooray!

It looks great.

Being a new crochet(er) myself - I believe it helps to use a really good tutorial.  I tried a couple of years ago and gave up but this time I could actually uderstand what I was supposed to be doing.

And it's officially an addiction. I started a new one on the bus earlier and intend to finish the topping before DD gets home from school!

Your are right - it is sooooooooooooooo adictive, I only started 3 years ago and my boys now don't recognise me unless I have a hook in my hand!

That is very cute.
Sooo I'm new to crafting because I just got some more time on my hands.
I was wondering if someone could give me the basics on what I need to start crocheting?
For example, what do I need to create something like the cute little thing pictured above?
Thank you!

There are some fab tutorials on utube, I taught myself from a book called 'Crochet Unravelled' by Claire Bojczuk, you can still get it on Amazon as I recently got another copy for a friend.  Good luck and feel free to ask questions, there are a few of us crocheters here!

Basically you need a number 4 hook and a ball of double knitting and your off!

Beautiful!
Crochet is very addictive indeed, but good for soul, so keep up the good work!
